Road Maintenance Officer
Hume City Council| Monday to Friday | 6:30am-3:30pm
About the Role
We’re seeking a proactive and experienced Road Maintenance Officer to join Hume City Council's dedicated Infrastructure Maintenance team. You’ll play a vital role in keeping Hume’s road networks safe, clean, and structurally sound for our growing community.
This is a hands-on role focused on asphalt and road signage repairs, general road infrastructure maintenance, and operation of heavy vehicles and plant. If you’re passionate about outdoor work, community safety, and making a visible impact — this is your opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out asphalt patching, road repairs, and routine signage maintenance
Drive and operate Council vehicles and road maintenance plant (e.g. backhoes, excavators, etc.)
Conduct regular inspections and perform preventative maintenance on roads, drainage, signage, and bridges
Erect and maintain safety signage, barriers, and traffic control measures according to Victorian standards
Maintain daily work records, contribute to asset condition reporting, and assist in program development
What You’ll Need
White Card (Construction Induction Card)
Relevant experience in road maintenance
Current Heavy Rigid (HR) Truck Licence and General Driver’s Licence
Sound knowledge of municipal road maintenance standards and OH&S practices
Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-focused attitude
Ability to plan and prioritise daily tasks, including working independently
Willingness to participate in after-hours on-call duties when required
Desirable (not essential):
Forklift Licence
Demonstrated experience operating plant such as graders, backhoes, and loaders
Certificate III in Civil Construction
Competency certificates for plant operation
